Meet Afrikaans singles from the Cape to Limpopo

Afrikaans Singles is an Afrikaans dating site for Afrikaans men and women, and for anyone who would love to date one. It has been online since 2011, and more than 11,000 people have joined its three sections, nearly all of them in South Africa.

Gauteng and the Western Cape are the busiest provinces, though there are members in every province. The towns with the most members are Cape Town, Pretoria (with Centurion), Johannesburg, the East Rand, Bloemfontein and Gqeberha.

Falling for an Afrikaans man or woman

Dating an Afrikaner is much like dating anyone else: be kind, be curious and turn up when you said you would. A few local touches help, though, and most of them are fun.

Try a little Afrikaans. “Hallo”, “Hoe gaan dit?” and “Baie dankie” are easy to learn, and asking how to say something is a lovely way to keep a conversation going. A wobbly g is part of the charm.

Say yes to the braai. An invitation to a braai is a good sign. If it’s a “bring and braai”, bring your own meat and something to drink, offer to help, and leave the fire to whoever is in charge of it unless you’re asked.

Family matters. Meeting the family, often over a long Sunday lunch, usually means things are getting serious. Remember a few names and thank the cook.

Ask, don’t assume. Afrikaans is spoken at home by South Africans of many backgrounds and faiths, from the Boland to the Bushveld. Ask about their world, and if faith matters to you, say so on your profile: the daily suggestions take religious beliefs into account.

From first hello to first date

  1. Choose your section and make your profile. Say who you are and what you’re looking for, and add a few photos.
  2. See new faces every day. Your daily suggestions weigh distance, age, what you’re both looking for, lifestyle, interests and religious beliefs.
  3. Chat when it suits you. Send a message, comment on someone’s news and photos, and take your time getting to know each other.
  4. Meet up. When you’re both ready, choose somewhere public for the first date. Our first date ideas, in Afrikaans, can help you pick the spot.

It all runs in the browser on your phone, and it can sit on your home screen next to your other apps. There’s nothing to download.

You stay in control

On your profile, people see a username and the nearest town. Your real name, your email address and where you live stay off it. You pick the photos others get to see, and anyone who bothers you can be blocked or reported, straight from their profile or from your chat.

Chat on the site before you hand out your number, never send money to someone you haven’t met, and tell a friend where you’re going on a first date. If something feels off, trust your gut. Our safety page and our guide to romance scams in South Africa go into more detail, both in Afrikaans.

Straight answers for English speakers

Do I need to speak Afrikaans?

No. The sign-up and the members’ area are in English, and members chat in whatever language they share. Most of the pages on this website, like our guides, are in Afrikaans.

Is Afrikaans Singles only for Afrikaners?

No. It’s for Afrikaans singles of every background, and for anyone who would love to date one.

Can I join more than one section?

Yes. Each section is a separate membership with its own members, so you join each one you’re interested in on its own.

Who is Stoutes for?

Adults of 18 and over who want flirting and no-strings fun rather than a serious relationship. If you’d like something lasting, Enkellopendes or Goue Oues will suit you better.
